Can I just take steriods/prednisone when I have a flare?

Your doctor may have prescribed steroids as a treatment for moderate to severely active Crohn\’s or ulcerative colitis. While steroids can help alleviate symptoms, they work by suppressing your entire immune response rather than targeting the specific areas of inflammation. Therefore, because of the possibility of significant side effects, steroids should not be used as a maintenance medication.
